Terms of Service
Effective: October 7, 2026
Private test. gremblin is being tested with a small group of invited people. It is operated by Jon Smith as an individual; the operator, the domain and these terms will be updated before gremblin opens to the public, and you will be told when that happens.
These terms are an agreement between you and Jon Smith (an individual, "gremblin", "we", "us"), the operator of the gremblin service at https://gremblin.com (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What gremblin is
gremblin is a personal media journal: a place to record the movies, TV shows, games and books you watch, play and read, how you felt about them, and what you want to experience next, and to share some of that with people you choose. It is offered free of charge during its soft launch. We may add paid features later; nothing you have already recorded will be taken away because of that.
2. Who may use it
You must be at least 13 years old, or older where your local law requires a higher age to agree to terms like these or to consent to the handling of your personal data. By creating an account you confirm this. We do not collect your date of birth; we rely on your word.
You are responsible for your account: keep your sign-in method secure, and tell us if you believe someone else is using it. One person per account.
3. Your content
Everything you record in gremblin (your log, ratings, likes, reviews and private notes), together with your username and profile, is your content. You own it.
So that the Service can work, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and transmit your content for the purpose of providing the Service to you and, where you have chosen to make it public or share it with followers, to the people you have shared it with. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that remain in backups for a short period and for content other people have already seen.
Private notes are private. Notes you attach to a log entry are never shown to anyone else and are never part of a public page.
Reviews can be public. A review is visible to other people according to your account's privacy setting. On a public account, a review may appear on the title's page and in search results, including to visitors who are not signed in. Write accordingly.
You are responsible for your content. Do not post anything you do not have the right to post, anything unlawful, anything that harasses or threatens another person, spam, or deliberate attempts to break the Service. We may remove content or hide a review that we reasonably believe breaks these rules or the law, and we may suspend or close an account that repeatedly does so. We will tell you when we do this, where the law allows and it is practical.
4. Other people's content
Reviews and other content written by other users are their opinions, not ours. We do not check them for accuracy and we are not responsible for them. If something another user has written is abusive or unlawful, tell us at jon@foxbotinc.com and we will look at it.
5. Title information from third parties
Titles, artwork, release dates and similar information about movies, TV shows, games and books come from third-party sources:
- TMDB — this product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- IGDB — game data provided by IGDB.com (Twitch Interactive).
- Open Library — book data provided by Open Library, an Internet Archive project.
That information is theirs, is subject to their terms, and can be incomplete or wrong. We cache it to keep the Service fast. We make no promise about its accuracy.
6. Your data
How we handle personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms. In short: you can export everything you have recorded from Settings at any time, and you can delete your account from Settings. Deletion hides your account immediately; after 30 days every personal record is permanently erased.
7. Changes to the Service and to these terms
The Service is in active development. Features will change, and some may be removed. We will do our best to warn you about changes that affect your content.
We may update these terms. If a change is significant we will tell you in the Service or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that is acceptance of the new terms. The current version is always at /terms, and the date at the top says when it last changed.
8. Ending the agreement
You can stop at any time by deleting your account. We can suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering the Service. If we close the Service entirely we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to export your data first.
9. No warranty, and limits on liability
The Service is provided as is. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or always available, or that the title information in it is correct.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service or from content written by other users, and our total liability to you for anything connected with the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which during the soft launch is nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing removes rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States of America, and any dispute will be brought in the courts there, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere.
